Hi Climate Perks member,

Happy new year and welcome to your first quarterly member newsletter.

Our new quarterly member newsletter will outline key project updates as well as actions that you can take to help roll out the scheme in your workplace and beyond. I hope this is a helpful resource for you, but please remember that you can always just contact me directly. if you have any questions or concerns or if there’s anything I can do to help you and your team make the most of your Climate Perks policy.

January is one of the busiest months for booking holidays, so now’s the time to remind your team that they can claim paid ‘journey days’ for climate-friendly travel.

New Members

After two years of Covid travel disruptions, we’re delighted to have Climate Perks up and running again. Over the past three months, 10 new organisations have implemented Climate Perks policies - meaning over 1,000 more employees are now able to claim paid time off work for flight-free travel. A warm welcome to Book Machine, Brunel Museum, Carbon Co-op, Edinburgh Science, Hydrock, PSHE Association, RJW & Partners, SafetyNet technologies, Third Sector Accounting, and Yoyo - great to have you onboard!*

Research

A huge thank you to those of you who participated in our interviews last summer. Our research partners at the Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformations have pulled together the key findings in this report. The good news is that it's working: Climate Perks users are choosing lower-carbon transport for their holidays when typically they would have flown, and they’re specifically citing the Climate Perks scheme as an enabler and as a motivation for this decision. It’s been really motivating to hear from you about how the scheme has landed with your colleagues, how people have found their climate-friendly journeys, and what I can do to improve the scheme.

Resources

Off the back of the interviews, I’ve been working on some resources to help you promote Climate Perks in your workplaces. You can now print out this poster for your office, refer to the expanded FAQs for clarity on some of the questions that arose, and browse our new blog, which will be regularly updated with fresh content (from tips and suggestions, to case studies of Climate Perks journeys).

Exclusive discount

Great news, we’ve partnered with a flight-free travel company, Byway. If you or one of your colleagues book a holiday with Byway, they’ll give you £50 off your booking, and 3% of the cost will go straight to Possible to support communities across the UK get involved with practical climate action. Use the promo code POSSIBLE to claim your discount on booking.

Help us capture impact

We have created a short form for you to record Climate Perks use in your organisation. Please take a couple of minutes to let us know a few topline details about staff uptake in your workplace during 2022.

Remind your employees about their journey days

As I mentioned above, now’s the time when loads of us book holidays. So, before your team automatically jumps onto flight-booking platforms, remind them that you’ll give them time off to make their journey over land instead. Here is a template email you can send to your team along with relevant resources that they might find useful.

Share your experience at an online Q&A

Over the next few months we’ll be running regular online events open to anyone who wants to find out more about Climate Perks and how it works in practice. We know from experience that these kinds of events are really effective in bringing new employers onboard, and even more so when they can hear from people in different organisations who’ve adopted the policy already, so we’d really appreciate your time.
